Sentai Sprite Biker Red

For the past couple hours, I’ve worked on what you see above. I’m no sprite artist, though I would love to be! (I can not draw hands real well either.)

For years, I’ve wanted to make a videogame inspired by the cliches of various tokusatsu series such as Super Sentai and Power Rangers. I wouldn’t say I like those shows so much as I do the idea of them. I dig the costumes, simple color schemes, poses, teamwork, and giant robot vs monster battles. But I have yet to watch a whole Super Sentai series because they fall into a “monster of the week” formula after they establish the concepts of each subsequent show.

My current idea would be a multiplayer platformer that involves some brawling and teamwork as a small group of multicolored warriors work to take down a bunch that have gone AWOL. I thought it would be cool if each colored hero represented a theme as opposed to the whole team conforming to a theme. Keep in mind, I thought of this two hours ago and the idea needs a lot more work.

Above is “Biker Red,” the leader of this group that might someday take down traitorous rangers or whatever they will be called so lawsuits don’t happen. I don’t have a story for him but I didn’t want the red hero to look generic just because he’s the leader.

I want him to have a biker look and focus on street fighting with fisticuffs and a long chain, similar to what Ghost Rider would wield. I like the red jacket; it’s inspired by the one Kaneda wears in Akira and perhaps he can ride on a similar-looking bike!

I’m brainstorming feasible game ideas that I can do quickly on my own, with no help from artists or anyone else. However, I am not an artist so this sentai warriors idea will have to be put on the back burner for sometime since the amount of artwork required would be significant. However, I will try to work on a new colored warrior from time to time.
